About vaccinations and other health issues
We require current vaccinations for all dogs and cats that stay with us.  This is for your own pet's protection, particularly if they have not been around many other dogs or cats and will therefore have a low resistance and immunity from potentially fatal diseases.  We take vaccinations very seriously and, however well we know you, will not permit your pet to stay without proof of current vaccination.  As well as being current all vaccinations must have been completed at least two weeks prior to your pet's stay with us as it takes at least two weeks for them to take effect.  If you are in any doubt about what is required you should contact your vet at least three weeks prior to check in to ensure your pet is properly covered.

For dogs we require the full C5 vaccination - there are two components to this, the standard C3 vaccination and the additional C5 covering Bordatella bronchiseptica and Parainfluenza, more specifically canine cough (sometimes known as kennel cough).  The Canine cough vaccine must be administered annually.  However, there is now a three year C3 vaccination available which we will accept on proof that the booster is not overdue.  If in doubt about what is best for your dog and what kennels will and not will accept you should discuss your dog's specific needs with your vet.

For cats we insist on at least the full F3 vaccination which includes cat flu, which is similar to canine cough.  All cat vaccinations need to be administered annually and at least two weeks prior to your cat's stay with us.  Your vet will be happy to discuss the various vaccinations with you and help you choose what is best for your cat.

We do take kittens and puppies in for boarding but only once all their first course of vaccinations is completed.  Under no circumstances will we accept puppies or kittens that have not had their full initial course of vaccinations as young animals are particularly at risk from dying  from the diseases you are vaccinating against.

Although we require vaccinations for protection against both canine cough and cat flu, there is still no guarantee that your dog or cat will not catch one of these.  These vaccinations are similar to the human flu vaccine and do not cover all the various strains of viruses and bacteria out there.  As cats and dogs are contagious prior to and after actually contracting the disease, it is almost impossible to detect an infected animal on check in making these diseases hard to totally eliminate in even the best kept kennels.

We do seek to minimise the risk by cancelling all bookings should we get an incidence of either cat flu or canine cough and not reopening until we have been clear for at least two days.  For cats we also have comfortable isolation cages for sick cats should we get an outbreak which minimises the risk of your cat contracting an illness while in our care.  We also minimise the risk of disease by thoroughly disinfecting kennels and cat runs between guests and disinfecting food and water bowls daily.

We are on a bush block and, although we inspect for fleas on arrival, there is little we can do about fleas that are already on the sand or our local wildlife.  Although roos coming close to our kennels and house yard are an attraction, they do have their negative consequences.  We recommend that owners use a spot treatment for their dogs and cats prior to check in.  We are happy to administer flea treatments and other medications your pet may require during their stay with us at no extra charge.
